BUFFALO TOURS WITH DOCENT TRAININGS

See Course description and overview below            Buffalo Tours

East Aurora, N.Y. -- Train to become a guide to Western New York's architecture, history, and rich culture beginning February 16 when the Roycroft Campus Corporation (RCC) and Buffalo Tours will begin their joint docent training program. Over the course of ten Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., trainees will receive an overview of the architecture and history of the Buffalo region and the Roycroft Campus, develop basic skills in becoming a guide or docent, and build confidence with public speaking.

RCC in collaboration with Buffalo Tours will combine resources the first five weeks to allow for further valuable insights and knowledge, through lectures and field trips.  You can choose to train for the National Historic Landmark Roycroft Campus in East Aurora or Buffalo Tours downtown.  The downtown tours include Downtown Revealed, North Downtown (Theatre District), and New Digs Downtown.

Classes will be held in several locations including: the Larkin Building on Exchange Street, the Market Arcade, Buffalo & Erie County Historical Society and the Roycroft Campus in East Aurora, to name a few of the sites. This is an opportunity to become familiar with local designs by world-renown architects the likes of Wright, Green, Wicks, Richardson, and Olmsted.

Those interested in designating their time to the Roycroft Campus will train the last five weeks in East Aurora.  These sessions will be designed to learn about the Arts & Crafts Movement, the influence and practices of Elbert Hubbard and the past, present and future significance of the Roycrofters.  To learn more visit the RCC website at www.roycroftcampuscorporation.com

At the end of this course, the docent trainees will have learned the information needed to provide specific tours and will join the team of well trained and experienced corps of volunteer docents with knowledge of architecture, history, and preservation.

"As a trainee in of Buffalo Tour’s 2005 class, I was able to combine my love of Buffalo history and design," according to Marla Bujnicki. "This has been a creative outlet for me and a chance to meet people from Buffalo Niagara as well as national and international tourists! I have taken it a step further and became a volunteer with the team, planning and organizing new tours and trainee classes. Buffalo Tours is an important part of my life and a good balance to my day job."

Classes run from February 16 through May 3 at different locations. The cost is only $50 for the series. Registration can be taken by phone at 362-0266 or online at register@buffalotours.org
