About:

Roycroft Renaissance Master Artisan, Thomas Kegler, will be teaching a one day workshop which will focus on developing a still life composition using oil colors. The workshop will be geared for intermediate and advanced students, but beginners with some experience are most welcome. Concept, value, edges, composition, color, and brush handling will be presented in a demonstration and hands-on practice. The day will focus instruction on materials, composition, approaches, and painting techniques.

Although students are encouraged to work in the medium of their choice, oil will be used and presented. Acrylic, watercolor and drawing techniques will not be addressed, but if that is your medium of choice you may be able to apply some of the concepts and techniques. Students will see a demonstration as the instructor creates a still life in oil during the morning session.

Students will then have an opportunity to set up their own composition and delve into their own paintings. The instructor will give spontaneous occasional demonstrations as-need-be during the afternoon student painting session. The instructor will also circulate the room as students paint giving some individual suggestions as time allows.
