About:    

COPPER REPOUSSE PROJECTRoycroft Master Artisan, Frank M. Glapa, will lead this 2 day workshop in Copper Repousse (REPOUSSE – French – to push back work).  Beginning with the most basic of techniques, students will create a beautiful Arts & Crafts style 3 ¾”x 8 ¼” copper panel. Learn Frank’s techniques, shortcuts and methods. Students will be provided with a few design choices: rose, Echinacea daisy, or tree.

Discussion, instruction and background about metal work, the material used, various skill levels and shop safety are all covered.

Material fee includes copper sheets, steel wool, blades, ear protection, mallet, 4 chasing tools, nylon stick, plastic square, wood block, and design copies and additional handouts. Tools supplied are handcrafted by Frank Glapa.   Other tools, to complete the project, will be provided by and remain the property of the instructor. Some tools will be offered for purchase.

Instructor:

Frank GlappaFrank M. Glapa, a Roycroft Master Artisan in metal, has been working in the arts and crafts, for 10+ years. He studied at The Art Institute of Chicago and after 20+ years designing in the advertising industry he created his first copper design as influenced by C. R. Mackintosh in 1996. He has mastered the repousse style in copper and makes his designs to reflect this very unique form.  Mr. Glapa designs and creates Roycroft style objects for the home and office and his work is in Australia, Canada, Japan, and all over the U.S. Frank Glapa became a Roycroft Renaissance Artisan in 2000 and 2001, and a Master Artisan in 2003. He is also a State of Illinois Artisan. Recently, some of Mr. Glapa’s work has been featured in a new coffee table book “Adirondack Home” by Ralph Kylloe. At the Copper Shop we feature many of Mr. Glapa’s masterpieces for sale.  Also note that outside the Copper Shop some magnificent works of the artist are proudly displayed.  Please check out the craftsmanship in the outdoor signage and mailbox that were created by this very talented Roycroft artist.
  In all classes, taught by Frank Glapa, you will learn the philosophy of Head, Heart, and Hand as practiced by the Roycrofters.
