| About: |
Roycroft Master Artisan, Frank M. Glapa, will lead this two-day, hands-on workshop, to teach how to create chasing and stipling tools used in making beautiful designs on copper with ease. He will also show how to make jigs to simplify projects. Basic tools will be provided.
Discussion, instruction and background about metal work, the material used, various skill levels and shop safety are all covered.
Material fee includes copper sheets, steel wool, blades, tool steel eye/ear protection, design copies and additional handouts. Tools will be provided by and remain the property of the instructor. Some tools will be offered for purchase.
Optional items for students to supply:
Magnification eyewear, extra lighting, shop apron or shop coat. |

Frank M. Glapa, a Roycroft Master Artisan in metal, has been working in the arts and crafts, for 10+ years. Frank is inspired and influenced by nature’s organic forms, and the architecture and designs of the Arts and Crafts Movement.
At The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, he studied Photography and Printmaking, and served as a Teaching Assistant in the Printmaking Department. Then for 20+ years worked in advertising as a designer and photographer and also taught photography.
Frank is a Roycroft Renaissance Master Artisan since 2003. His work is in private collections throughout the United States, Canada, Japan and Australia. Now he is also expanding into jewelry designs and fabrication. Recently, some of Mr. Glaps’s work has been featured in a coffee table book “Adirondack Home” by Ralph Kylloe. Also note that outside the Copper Shop, some magnificent works of the artist are proudly displayed. Please check out the craftsmanship in the outdoor copper sign and mailbox that were created by this very talented Roycroft Master artist.
In all classes, taught by Frank Glapa, you will learn the philosophy of
Head, Heart, and Hand as practiced by the Roycrofters.
