| About: |
Roycroft Master Artisan and Art instructor, Ron VanOstrand,  will instruct a two-day workshop on the art of metalsmithing. Chasing & Metalsmithing for Jewelry
Students will learn chasing, stamping and forming techniques used specifically in designing jewelry. Simple torch
soldering will also be covered. Copper will be the material used for class. Students are welcome to supply their own
silver, if desired. All classes practice the fundamental Head, Heart, Hand skills employed by the Roycrofters.
Materials fee covers metal for projects, hearing protection, and consumables (sandpaper, gas, patina solution,saw blades, etc.)
Tools will be provided by and remain the property of the instructor.

If students have already taken another class with Ron, they can request a more challenging project with advanced approval.

| Instructor: |
 Ron VanOstrand began his association with the metal artswhile studying under metal-smith Thomas R. Markusen. During his studies and in following years, Ron interned at the Markusen Metalsmithing Studio. After earning his Bachelor of Fine Art degree at the State University of New York at Brockport, he went on to study at the School for American Craft at RIT and earned a Master of Fine Arts in Metal Jewelry Design. It was at RIT that Ron was introduced to the Roycroft Renaissance movement. Ron continues to craft works in copper, silver, German silver, and occasionally gold, in the manner set forth by the Roycrofters. Ron is a Master Roycroft Artisan. |
