Amélie is a charming and romantic comic fantasy from director Jean-Pierre Jeunet. The movie gives a whim¬sical depiction of modern Parisian life as seen through the eyes of a shy waitress, played by Audrey Tautou, in a star making role. When Princess Diana dies in a car wreck in the summer of 1997, Amélie is reminded that life can be fleeting and she decides it's time for her to intervene in the lives of those around her. She decides to transform the world by bringing a bit of happiness to her neighbors and the regulars at the café where she works, and in doing so, discovers love. The film makes the perfect Valentine present and shows how love can change the world.

The film received critical acclaim and won Best Film at the European Film Awards and was nominated for five Oscars. To date, it is the highest-grossing French-language released in the United States, and one of the biggest international successes for a French movie. In 2010, the American Society of Cinematographers name Amélie the best-shot movie of the 2000s.
