The Roycroft Film Society will present The Marx Brothers’ A NIGHT AT THE OPERA, a classic film screening and live vaudeville performance in collaboration with The Lancaster Opera House, on Saturday, February 29, 2020, at 7:30 pm, and Sunday, March 1, 2020, at 2:30 pm.

Before the age of the multiplex, a trip to the theater could include more than one type of media. Even for feature films, there might also be live performers, multiple shorts, and musicians. Join us for a loving recreation of that type of theatrical experience, featuring a screening of the legendary Marx Brothers comedy, “A Night at the Opera.” Buffalonian Al Boasberg, who is buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery, was brought on to punch up some of the jokes and add some new scenes to the film; his most notable contribution is the now-famous stateroom scene. In addition to the Marx Brothers’ film, there will be a screening of the Looney Tunes’ “What’s Opera, Doc?” and “Our Gang Follies of 1938,” in which Alfalfa thinks he can be a world famous opera singer.

LOH performers Nathan Andrew Miller, featured recently in Miracle on 34th Street – A Live Musical Radio Play, as well as Marc Ruffino and Emily Yancey, seen earlier this season in Neil Simon’s Rumors, will perform a classic vaudeville comedy sketch, “The Court of Last Retort,” and LOH Artistic/Executive Direcctor David Bondrow, joined by Ms. Yancey, will sing some popular music from the 1930s.

Tickets are $20 (adults), $18 (seniors), and $15 (members of the RFS and students). The LOH Box Office is open Monday through Friday from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm and one hour before curtain at performances. The Lancaster Opera House is located on the second floor of the Lancaster Town Hall, 21 Central Avenue, Lancaster, New York 14086. Tickets can also be purchased by calling 716-683-1776 or on the web at Student discount tickets can be ordered in advance but must be picked up by the student at the performance. Students must present a valid student I.D.
